Why is the maximum volume of the optical output lower than the USB audio output?

In my DUDU7, I have Sound menu option, then either Equalizer or Settings.

I'm not using the equalizer and cannot see the main volume level in Settings.

Sound Setting Amplifier Gain Adjust the amplifier gain to maximum and try it.
The optical and USB DAC channels are different.

If all this does not work, there are 16 pin Amplifiers where you can get 50% or more volume.
There are some with treble and bass and some with just volume adjustments.
And there are some DSP amplifiers for head units without DSP chip.
But i think they all have just toslink input...

So to follow up, is there are way to increase the volume (in settings) for the digital output?
If not is this something that can be fixed in the software or is this a hardware problem?
If it is software limitation should it be written up as a software Bug?

Thanks for that. So do you have a sense of where that setting should be when using the Mekede's builtin amplifier vs using the RCA outputs vs using the Optical outputs? Seems like optical would have it maxed out.

eurban Maybe you could try rootless James DSP from the Playstore?
It can max out the volume.

Chubaka885 Your link was useful. I have just received my Mekede Dudu7 and won't be able to install it for a while. I am planning out how I am going to connect it up to my DSP and I am concerned about all the reports of low volume when using the optical output. I can't personally test whether or not this solves the low volume issue until I get my system installed. I am certainly hoping that I can connect the Mekede to my DSP with optical and get a good result. My question was whether this setting should be changed depending on what type of output is being used. Again thank you for the info you provided.

Yes we need more volume settings and volume per app.
That this is possible can you see in the firmware of the Nubia Z70 Ultra.
Yes i know this is a phone.
But why not take a pure Android 13 and make it fit the DUDU devices?
I think in China are more then enough programmer that could make it possible?

На прошлых версиях прошивки, действительно, уровень громкости был занижен. Но это давно исправлено.
Уровень громкости SPDIF выхода достаточный.

Lasst doch das bitte die User entscheiden.
Gebt diese Einstellung frei mit dem Hinweis, dass eine zu hohe Einstellung dazu führen könnte, dass etwas kaputt gehen kann.
Ich finde auch, dass die komplette Lautstärke viel zu leise ist.

Sure, but my DSP is in the back of the vehicle and running both a toslink cable and RCA's just to make sure that there won't be an issue when connecting digitally is more expensive and more work. I'm just hoping that the optical is working as it should. If the latest versions of firmware have solved this then great! People still seem to be reporting issues so that is what is worrying me.

doozy please DO NOT change it. It's perfect now. Passthrough with dsp off, 120dB S/N and volume control. And navi and phone calls audio. I can live with 90% max volume.

doozy im just afraid that Dudu would do the real "passthrough" without volume control and second option with no passthrough which is horrible, sound is strange even with dsp effects off.
I wouldn't say it's against SQ, doesn't make any difference if the volume control is done on headunit or DSP. Signal with "passthrough" just now is excellent, according to measurements S/N is well below 110dB, THD is negligible. There isn't much difference (surely not audible) between usb and optical (given optical is always 48kHz in reality).
Optical passthrough as it's now isn't the weakest link in the chain. Your amps have much worse S/N...
Again, if you really want to have bit perfect, use USB.
