  • Microphone Issues - call quality is poor

Hi team, I've reviewed other posts but yet to find a fix. I'm using the external microphone that came with my DUDU7 unit and phone calls are horrendous. Callers at the other end report drop outs, echo and low volume. I've trawled through the settings but can't seem to adjust it to find a fix. I'm hoping there will be some simple microphone settings introduced soon to address these issues. Does anyone know of a simple fix please? Thank you 🙏

For more efficient feedback on bugs, be sure to provide the following basic information to reduce communication costs
[1] Describe in detail the error you encountered.
[2] Provide screenshots of system information, in the car settings - about - long press the upper left corner of the picture for 3 seconds, the contents of the pop-up window to take pictures
[3] Whether the bug can be reproduced, reproduced is what the steps arenow of a reasonably simple fix?

RioG what do you mean by "horrendous"? Please record some sample of your phone call.

RioG Did you try with the internal microphone?
The internal seems to be very good.

JhonnyD yes mate, still not good..

ciubaka Not too many way to describe the meaning of horrendous other than the literal meaning and what I have already described. I can hear callers but they can't really hear me. I've tried all the settings I can find, I've recorded with an app to try and amplify and no good. I can't record their end so that's impossible. It (microphone) is very average.

What car and where have you placed the external mic? Echo (too sensitive ) and low volume (not sensitive enough) are contrary so I'd suspect a mounting issue. For instance if vibration is induced in the mic, the noise cancellation will try and dampen it and that could have side effects.
I don't think it's a bug in the system, on the other hand I'd also appreciate a gain control as echo occurs in other installations using the DUDU7 supplied external mic as well and that could be handled by slightly lowering the gain.
I had to do some adjustments (had echo) but use the OEM mic of my VW, quality is perfect now (lowered supply voltage of OEM mic - this fix is irrelevant for DUDU supplied mic though).

gismo Yep I saw your posts and following along for a more permanent fix from Mekede. The external mic is on the dash of my BT50. I just installed the new Beta update, it was working a lot better (but still had issues) before the update. I agree, a mic gain and something to adjust the noise cancelling would be great

RioG if you can, relocate the mic to sit on the steering column in front of the main instrument cluster. Often that's the best position. And make sure it sits on a bit of foam (foamy tape will do) to decouple it from vibration.

Ok. I've tried every setting, moved the mic around, even bought and tried a PowerDeWise 3.5 external (that doesn't work at all on these units - no sound. Likely due to the connection being different to the shitty one supplied by Mekede). This is an issue that has not been solved or reported as solved on any head unit on any forum that I've researched. Bottom line - the microphone capability is a key component that needs to be fixed. No point blaming the user - it's a longstanding user reported issue. The so called noise cancellation on the DUDU7 is non-existent. This requires a software fix and likely a better hardware solution (better external microphone). If anyone has had success with another option, setting or replacement microphone I'd love to hear it. Great product let down by this issue.

RioG if you own an iPhone you can use the iOS voice recorder - it will use dudu mic when connected via Bluetooth.
I have tested the noise cancellation and unless it has been broken then it worked. But noice cancellation doesnt make your voice crystal clear. It just reduce static noise from the background.

ciubaka was working ok before I updated the latest Beta firmware. Can you please point me in the direction of the iOS voice recorder and how to use what you're talking about? Greatly appreciated 👍

RioG was working ok before I updated the latest Beta firmware.

Wait - so it was ok before the update? That info seems to be missing in your original description but is important I think.
I don't have this error, my mic works normally even though I'm also on beta - but I'm on the current beta v3.5 241118. Yours is much older. Therefore I'd try and reflash the latest beta version - and if that doesn't help, roll back to the previous stable 241008 then.

Apologies, wrong photo. I'm on version 241118...

RioG just connect your iPhone to the unit and open the voice recorder (Dictaphone) app in the phone. Start speaking. That's it.
