Vehicle Settings apk does not work correctly

System version: Dudu7, all versions since 202407 up til latest (unofficial) Global_DUDU7870_2410221855_2409271727.7z.
Car: Skoda Octavia 2015, using RZC (Raise) box, set to Volkswagen, Octavia, 2015-2019.

The vehicle settings apk

does not work correctly.
The first option "Language Settings" can be used but does not save. When I set it to Dutch (or anything else than English), it is simply not saved. This always worked on my previous Mekede 500S. It does not work on my dudu7. This bug has already been mentioned multiple times in the Telegram channels, but it has never been picked up so I now make it an official bug.
I can live with a car "in English". My wife hates it and can't understand why previous units did this correctly and this new unit can't (and she is right 😉 ).

Some other options don't work either. Some of them worked on the Mekede, others didn't work either.

The TPMS option, and this is the TPMS option from VAG (Volkswagen/Audi/Skoda/Seat) is different from all other brands, and never worked either on my previous units. As it is a CANbus function, it would be very nice if it would work as it is of course useless to buy an external set if the car already has a builtin TPMS set working via CANbus.

The issue you mentioned about Vehicle Settings does exist.

You can set the language here:
Setup>Android Settings>System>Languages and input
Then reboot launcher or reboot HU.

For the issue of not displaying tire pressure, check Setup>Devices>TPMS>TPMS Setting>TPMS Category:Sys Interconnect.

I don't mean the Android language. That is very obvious. I always switch that from Dutch to English before making screenshots and that back again to Dutch. That does not need a reboot since android 4 or 5.
I mean the language used by the car in info screens between the clocks (km/h and RPM) in the dashboard. That currently displays car messages in English.
With the Vehicle Settings, you set the car language, not the Android language. But unfortunately that does not work.
And on the previous Joying sc9853i and Mekede 500S with the same cambus, that simply worked without reboot.
On this unit it does not work, with or without reboot.

Update: This morning my car had to go to the garage for service.
Now my car menu, between the KM/H and RPM clock, is in Dutch. Switching to English, German or Dutch works immediately.
Of course in the garage, the car is connected via OBD to some service device and they check and test "things". I have no idea whether that resetted something.
Just for clarity and completeness, I will display two images to show it has nothing to do with Android, but with the car menu itself which you access via SWC.
I will update above posts.

And I now see how much dust is on my Dashboard. Shame on me 🙂

The strange thing is though that when I reopen the Language Settings, or completely exit and reopen the app, there seems no language selected at all. The good thing is that it now simply works, although some texts are still in English (l/h, km/h, trip) but obviously they (VAG) think that Dutch people will understand.

surfer63 To maybe shed some light on this: I have a software on my laptop called VCDS and it can do various things that the workshop tester software can do, in a documented way. You can basically enter the control module of the instrument cluster and have, amongst many others, settings for language and region. Changes are done via "coding", a config process whereby the software just sends (writes) a Hex string into the control module and that accepts / rejects it. The accept / reject check of the control module is rather primitive though. I guess that settings.apk sends/writes such strings to control modules and that there are flaws that can result in a blocked language selection. Could well have happened while trying to write elsewhere. The workshop can obtain the original config string from the server and "repair" through overwriting. Would have been interesting to see whether the instrument cluster had any faults stored, most of them are not shown in the central display (MFD) but likely the workshop was triggered by stored faults, they scan for these typically.
Would be interesting to know whether DUDU applies testing against tools such as VCDS to avoid misconfigs, some of these could be more than just annoying.
Having read this and given that at this stage not even the Raise canbus protocol settings work properly (e.g. my VW T6 Caravelle 2018 only works when I select it as VW PQ instead), I'll stay clear from DUDUOS functions that write to the Canbus - reading is fine of course 😉

Potentially stupid question: Many VW/Skoda etc have a passive TPMS that works via the ABS sensors. These don't have TPMS sensors in the tires, as active TPMS systems would. Yours is active, yes?

To be honest: I don't know. I do know the difference, but I do not know what I have.
A passive system on the ABS/wheel system should only warn in case your tyre is losing air fast.
But my front-left tyre had a slowely leaking valve slighlty over a year ago. In about 1½ month I got a warning that it was below 2.0 Bar, so I simply inflated it again. (I have a small generator which I use regularly to inflate/deflate my car and caravan tyres). Then again after _1½ month, and again after _1½ month. That's when I went to the garage and had the tyre checked (OK) and then the valve replaced.
So it looks like an active system, but the garage told me I had the passive system.

I have the RZC (Raise) box, set to Volkswagen, Octavia, 2015-2019.
The direction is displayed in the MFD**, but I have no idea whether it is visible somewhere in Dudu. I will check tomorrow.

** I did not even know what an MFD was 😉

Ok the passive system doesn't show pressures, only the active one does. On the active one, you typically go to the TPMS menu in MFD and "store pressure" after airing up (effectively you tell the system that all tires should have the correct diameter now and then on the next couple of Kms it learns the rotation speeds and later triggers a warning, should a tire deviate, works also for slow leakage). That storing is not needed on the active system, as it measures pressure directly.

PS Thx for confirming the compass. I figured out why it's missing here: The car thinks DUDU is just a radio - will change that to become a Navi also.

But unfortunately it still doesn't work.
I also mentioned that that function never worked, not on my previous units either.

@gismo explained why it will never work. The VAG passive system will only send warnings (via CANbus) when pressure is too low. It will not (never) send pressure values as such.

I will also change the English and Dutch translation of the current "Three-Party's TPMS".
It should be "Third Parties TPMS" or "3rd Parties TPMS". Likewise for Dutch (TPMS van derden).

You can update the new DUDU Base application to be released one month later and then check if there is any data on tire pressure
If there is still no tire pressure data, it may be necessary to check whether the wiring of the vehicle and DUDU equipment is correct.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
But it is as @gismo says: The VAG cars with a passive TPMS system do not give data back to the car. They can't give data in any way to dudu. Knowing this fact made it also easier for me to google on this, and it is correct.
The only "message" they give via CANbus is if one of the tyres is suddenly having a lower pressure. So they do not give tyre pressures or temperatures. They really only give a warning message that one (or more) or the tyres is suddenly loosing pressure.
I really think it might help a lot of other users, but not the users with a VAG car with passive TPMS.
I will add the new base application though and see if it gives some more info in other areas as still data is missing from the car info screen.

That is one of the applications in the total DuDu firmware that delivers "base" functionality between the hardware, like CANbus, and "the rest" of the DuDu firmware.
You can download newer versions from the DuDu appstore on your unit.
Note though that this is probably a beta release of this base apk. You can only download those if your set the appstore to allow downloading beta software.
