First, excellent work. This app is great and I appreciate your hard work. Even in more rural areas in the US I can get the current speed limit now with the addition of the databases.

Would it be possible to let us change the beep sound? Like, upload our own audio files. That would be a nice addition. Not really an issue our anything, just a thought I had recently, I understand if this is easier said than done.

It is not that difficult, but it is time consuming. I assume you need two selection options in this case: one for overspeeding and one for the speed camera.
I will think about it. Currently I use a "tonegenerator" in kotlin code: extremely simple and small.

I just built another setting in the Settings -> Audio Section:

I do not know what FYT/DuDu is doing to the audio channels, but this should give you the option to select any channel you want.

I need to test this as it is completely untested now.

I've got the speed limit sign size exactly how I want it, so it looks perfect too.

Modifying the main server does not fix the problem with the pipipi alert sound from the Speed Alert application, it only causes the radio sound not to turn off, because previously the radio sound would turn off when exceeding the speed limi

The answer is indeed "might".
As said: I simply wrote the code Yesterday evening. I have not tested yet. As far as I know, FYT/DuDu suppresses all "alarm" sounds. I tested that earlier. This means that that option should probably be removed (but I have to test).
I guess the "ring"(tone) channel is the most safe one, as you always hear the phone. But it could also be that FYT/DuDu also "kidnapped" that channel for their own BT use.

No, that is not correct. You have an issue and so have @robisto and @Gsibaja. For me it has always worked (and for many other users). That is why it is so terribly difficult to troubleshoot this: it works for most users and not for some others.
I certainly don't want to downplay your problem, but I don't understand why it is not working.
I will now simply test if the options work. If the options work, I will release it and hope that one of the options will work for you as well.

That's the problem with FYT, and now also with DuDu. They modified the audio channels and disabled the standard Android working. You say it yourself: It works with "normal" Android programs. those are programmed according "the rules of Android". FYT and DuDu break those rules.

I am still afraid that with whatever option you chose, FYT/DuDu will overrule everything by "stealing" audio focus when the radio plays.

V2.3 Add tts voice warning in case of speed cameras

When you use databases and update to 2.2 or now to 2.3, you MUST update the databases to the April version(s) released with version 2.2

Two new audio Settings:
1. Add option to speak a TTS voice message when approaching a speed camera or traffic light camera ("Watch out. Speed or traffic light camera ahead.", currently 14 languages supported). When you select this option, you will no longer hear the double speed-camera beep.
2. Add Setting to select the output channel (media, navigation, ring, etcetera)

Read this when the app doesn't show speed limits. This web page also displays statistics on the number of highways and highways tagged with "max speed limit" tags in the entire world.

I've just updated to 2.3 and tested the TTS announcement. For me selecting System from the drop down was the only one that worked properly in testing. The others just gave a very short sound or nothing. Dudu/FYT hijacking the audio maybe?

Anyway system works great for the TTS and what I already thought was the perfect app just got even better!

I have the overspeed beep volume permanently set to 0% as I don't want that beeping at me when the UK maps have the speed data wrong, so prefer just a visual alert for that. But having a separate TTS warning for upcoming cameras is brilliant as that is always useful to know. The cherry on the icing on the cake!

I've just bought a cheap Android Head Unit for my wife's car and have just tried to install Speedalert on it.

I keep getting "there was a problem while parsing the package" error.

Although the "About Car" info page shows Android 15, the app DevCheck shows it is actually running Android 9 (Pie). Not a huge surprise and generally I am not bothered as all the later Android versions just seem to add more restrictions on what you can do.

But one of the reasons for getting it was to put SpeedAlert on it for her. I've allowed install from unknown sources so I guess it is a case of the "Minimum SDK Version" for SpeedAlert being too high for it to work on Android 9?

Is there anything I can do to get round this? Would it work OK on Android 9 even if I could get it installed somehow?
