Out of interest, I have installed Tempomaster as well as SpeedAlert and have been running them at the same time to compare.

Around where I live (rural Devon in UK) the fallback speedlimit that SpeedAlert uses gives it a huge advantage over Tempomaster. On a quick 5 or 6 mile round trip locally, I would say more than 50% of the time Tempomaster just displayed a ? for the speed limit, where SpeedAlert showed the correct national limit for the road type.

I also prefer that SpeedAlert changes the colour of the actual speed limit if you go over it, with Tempmaster it is the speed itself that changes colour and I prefer not to display that as it is already displayed on the main dashboard. Doing that with Tempomaster would mean no visual alert.

The only thing I did prefer with Tempomaster was the actual display of the speed limit. It does allow a much larger display, and the text is slightly thinner which to my old eyes was clearer to see. It also has a nice silver bezel effect around it.

But overall, for my use case and where I live, I will be sticking with SpeedAlert.

Somewhere in the next week, I will release version 2.2.
I changed and improved the databases. I added “Google encoded polylines”. The app not only checks on the “bounding box”, but also if the GPS coordinates are on or near the closest polyline (see explained in Bounding boxes and Polylines). This to prevent errors with parallel roads. Also changed the kotlin code. This means that if you upgrade to 2.2, you must also update your databases. These will be released just before apk release. Without these new databases it will not work.

But I wasn't until I saw the link on the TempoMaster page and it works great for testing these type of apps. I have set up a test route that goes past a speed camera so that I can check out how the various warnings work. You can also change the speed you are "travelling" at to test overspeed settings and warnings.

I had an email to say you'd posted about not getting lockito to follow the road, but can't see the post here which is bizarre.

Anyway, I had the same problem initially but by setting the Route Mode in bottom left to "follow roads by car" it then did work correctly. But if you say it was in Driving mode it looks like you were doing that already.

I just added an A and a B and thought it would follow the curves in the road. Why otherwise the "follow roads for car"? And then suddenly I added a point C by accident, and then understood I had to make as many points as necessary.

I actually think the settings in it work a little bit oddly. I'm not 100%, but I think the settings you apply at the bottom only apply to new routes created after the change. So if you had created a route with direct route set it will stay like that. Then if you change the settings there to "follow road" and create a new route, that one WILL follow the road. I definitely have a route with only 2 points that does follow the road, but initially I had the same issue that you did.

I did just that. I set it to follow the road and then tried with a new route. I also excited and restarted the app, but it still doesn't follow the route (on my device)

Edit: Using lockito, I do test on the sofa using my phone, not in the car.

That's wierd. I too am testing at home on my Tablet, but have just created another new route after changing setting to "follow road", put 2 points on that are diagonally across a T junction and it follows the road to the junction and then turns just fine. I notice that if I exit the app and go in again it does go back to linear as the default, but any routes I created using "follow route" previously still do that correctly.

Maybe it's a version issue, my home tablet is an old Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 running Android 10.

V2.2 Databases improved with “Google encoded polylines”. Add Speed camera toast

When you use databases and update to 2.2, you MUST update the databases to the April version(s)

Databases changed and improved. Add "Google encoded polylines". The app not only checks on the "bounding box", but also if the GPS coordinates are on or near the closest polyline (see explained in Bounding boxes and Polylines). This to prevent errors with parallel roads. Also change the kotlin code. This means that if you upgrade to 2.2 or higher, you must also update your databases.
Overlay (text) scale sizes were from 60% to 180%. They are now from 50% to 300%.
Add speed camera "toast" again. It was called from main program but that doesn't function when in the background. It is now a temporary overlay as "toast", warning you. Text goes to red within 100 meters of camera. Text follows "scaling" options.
[Settings] Change "Don't show current speed" switch to a dropdown-spinner allowing to select "Show current speed", "Only show when overspeeding" and "Don’t show current speed".
[Settings] New switch: "Show units when displaying current speed (kmh or mph)". If you prefer to see the current speed, you can chose to append the units or only display the digits.
Add Australia-Oceania countries to list of downloadable databases. They were completely forgotten at first March creation/release.
Set typeface in overlay from bold to normal to make it look "sharper". Set normal speed text from "white" to green as "white" is hardly readable on a transparent background ranging from approx. 25-70%.

When the app doesn't show speed limits.

Some countries only have a limited number of roads tagged with speed limits in OpenStreetMap. org, whereas other countries have a big percentage of their roads covered. If the roads have no speed limit tags, the app can't show them.
Take a look at the Country Statistics with regard to number of highways and highways tagged with "max speed limit" tags.

Required permissions

Background location - The app (Android) will ask: "Allow all the time", "Allow only when using the app", "Ask every time", "Deny". You need to select "Allow all the time", as the app needs to be able to run in the background. This means it can use background location as long as the app runs (not as long as your system runs).

Notification permission
Ignore Battery optimization (especially on Android 14/15/16)

I've just downloaded and installed V2.2 with the new databases.

It all loaded up fine and the new settings options are great.

Will test properly tomorrow but visually it looks absolutely perfect now.

Version 2.2 works very well but unfortunately on Dudu 7 I still have no warnings when the FM radio is playing.

Modifying the main server does not fix the problem with the pipipi alert sound from the Speed Alert application, it only causes the radio sound not to turn off, because previously the radio sound would turn off when exceeding the speed limi

I just built another setting in the Settings -> Audio Section:

I do not know what FYT/DuDu is doing to the audio channels, but this should give you the option to select any channel you want.

I need to test this as it is completely untested now.
