Optical questions with DSP

I'd like to buy a Helix Mini Mk2 DSP, but I still have a few questions.

I want to connect the DSP via optical. Are there any disadvantages to connecting it via optical cable? I read somewhere that Bluetooth telephony, navigation voice, etc., would no longer work. Or was that only with USB-C audio?

Can someone please explain this to me? Is the sound via optical that much better than via RCA?

Blackbandt only usb audio with bit perfect mode from UAPP, poweramp etc and no volume control.
Spdif - pretty good with volume control, in "pass through". It's not bit perfect, all is resampled to 48 kHz,. Sound indeed is much better than RCA.

Mikescotland Thanks for your reply. If the sound is better than via RCA, optical would be perfectly sufficient for me. The important thing is that everything works just like it does via RCA.

Blackbandt yes it does. Sound it quite good, I'm using spdif in "pass through" mode 99% of the time.

Mikescotland Can you explain what you mean by loop-through mode?

Blackbandt it's so called pass through, not a full one. In this mode whole DSP processing is off and volume only works.
