3G (UMTS) has been completely shut down in Hungary by all mobile operators.
LTE Band 20 (800 MHz) remains the most important band for nationwide coverage, especially in rural areas.
LTE/NR Band 28 (700 MHz) is becoming increasingly important for both LTE and 5G coverage.
Band 32 (1500 MHz SDL) is Supplemental Downlink only and cannot operate as a standalone LTE band. It is used exclusively for Carrier Aggregation.
Band n78 (3600 MHz) provides the highest available 5G throughput.
One Hungary primarily uses NSA (Non-Standalone) 5G with DSS, while Telekom Hungary and Yettel Hungary also operate Standalone (SA) 5G in parts of their networks.
Since 2026, Telekom's 2G service has been provided through Yettel's radio access network, so devices should not assume an independent Telekom GSM infrastructure.
Carrier Aggregation (CA) is widely deployed by all three operators. Devices supporting 3CA/4CA will achieve significantly better LTE performance.
For automotive Android head units and LTE modems used in Hungary, support for B1 + B3 + B7 + B8 + B20 + B28 + B32 + B38 (LTE) and n1 + n28 + n78 (5G) is strongly recommended for maximum compatibility.
