dudu 2k dvr recording playback error

hi, i managed to setup the 2k dvr with my dudu player, after a few trips i want to try playing the recording but it just wont play. It says error. I try downloading the video & play using the file explorer apps but still wont work. In the recording it appear with thumbnail, but just wont play. the format is .mp4, android player should not have problem playing such format right? Help.

i just reformat the sd card using the dvr setting app, then the new recording can play normally.

Hello everyone,

I confirm the same problem with my 2K Dashcam. Sometimes, quite often, the video cannot be played after it is downloaded from the camera to DUDU7. I use a 256GB Sandisk Extreme microSD that has been working flawlessly in my Nintendo Switch until now.

I tend to believe that some videos get corrupted once the power supply to the camera is cut off after some minutes when the car is switched off due to the abrupt end of the recording because of the power cut. I have noticed that many videos don't have a thumbnail, or some have a thumbnail that is cut in half horizontally. These videos are corrupted. However, there are also videos with good thumbnails that cannot be played back after they are downloaded to the screen. Something is not right with the recording procedures and how they resume. And maybe something is not working correctly when a video is selected to be played back.

Downloading a one minute clip also from the camera to the headunit is very slow... It takes around 20seconds or more for the video clip to be downloaded from the camera to the headunit. Why is that? I have measured this microSD at a peak of 155MB/s in my PC so the memory card is not the problem.

I would be very grateful to you if you could look at this problems with your devs?

DUDU-Meng I just plugged my microSD into my laptop, and there are 420 video files of a total of 34GB inside the video folder and 420 thumbnails. Some of the videos are less than 1 minute because, from what I saw, the camera power is cut off about 5 minutes after I have turned off and locked my car.

All of the videos seem to play well on my laptop. However, I found one thumbnail that has 0KB size and its associated video is about 1 second long (2.5MB). The thumbnail cannot be opened. The video can be opened and played, but there seems to be a glitch just before it ends.

There is also a smaller video in the folder at 1.7MB about 1second in duration but it plays well without the glitch and the thumbnail is good.

From what I have seen until now in previous days before I reformatted the microSD through the DVR app, sometimes even videos with thumbnails that seem OK, once downloaded on the screen, cannot be played because there is no "play" button. Once this happens, after that, no matter which video you try to download and play from the camera within the DVR app, it doesn't work... There is no play button. It could be a possible bug of the DVR app maybe and its associated video player? I will do some more tests the following days to observe more on the behavior.

As for the very slow download speed of the videos to the headunit for me this is unacceptable and not in conformance with the general fluidity and snapiness of the rest of the system... It is like the download is capped at around 5MB/s from the camera to the headunit. Even if we suppose that the ports are USB2 the maximum theoretical transfer rate should be around 60MB/s. But I guess you have integrated a very slow microSD card reader on the camera... The recorded videos have a bitrate of aroung 16Mbits/s that is about 2MB/s. That's too slow. It is supposed that the camera requires a fast memory card but it seems that the fast read/write specs are not utilised by the system... Big "foul" here... Playback should start instantaneously once we click on a video...

Clip is downloading so slow because of usb I guess. Also image have little lag.

Gwinambele The download speed is indeed a bit slow. You can remove the SD card and watch it on your PC.

The video you uploaded is only 1 second long. It appears you have already exited the vehicle and locked it.
This is the final video captured before the USB power supply delayed shutdown until complete power loss. This should fall within the normal operating range.
Regarding the extremely slow transfer speed when downloading from USB to DUDU7, this issue currently cannot be resolved. It is not due to slow card reader performance; if the card reader were slow, the video recording write speed would also be insufficient.

DUDU-Meng I have many more videos that are 1s long only but there are no problems with the thumbnail or the glitch, so for me it is not normal... I formatted again the microSD in my computer. I will come back when I get new footage and with videos to demonstrate the problem on the headunit.

So if the culprit is not the card reader of the camera, why is the download speed so slow, and why can it not be resolved? Could you be specific about why the speed is so slow?

If these 1-second videos are the last recordings captured by DUDU after it entered sleep mode following your locking of the vehicle, then this is not considered an issue. You may disregard it.
The slow transfer issue stems from the USB protocol and currently has no solution.

DUDU-Meng that's not really true. Real world normal usb 2.0 transfer speeds should oscillate between 20-30 MB/s. If that's only 5 MB/s from the camera like the OP says, it's 4x slower than normal.

@DUDU-Meng I have uploaded video samples here that I recorded with my phone with fresh video recordings I did last night in my garage. Take a look at the problems. The microSD was formatted before the camera started recording.
a. Many videos cannot be played back after they have been downloaded to the DVR app.
b. In the second video you will see a glitch during the download phase of the video. When the download arrives at 60%, it gets stuck, and then after a few seconds, it starts downloading from 0% again. At the end the video cannot be played back.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In my PC, ALL THE VIDEOS can be played back without problems through VLC directly through the microSD, even the ones that where cut because of the power cut of the camera.

So for me it seem that the problem is not with the camera recordings but with the DVR app.

As for the download speed of the videos to the DVR app, it is ridiculously slow... In the best scenario it takes 30seconds and then in other videos it takes one whole minute to download the video... And then the video might not be playable...

Since DVR hardware currently cannot decode 2K video, it must be downloaded locally for viewing.
We plan to add a download-and-play feature in the future, but this functionality is still unstable and has many issues.

DUDU-Meng So you confirm that the problem is the DVR application that needs to be fixed... In any case, it is clear that you need to resolve the issues.

Furthermore, concerning the download speed, this seems to be a problem of your DVR app implementation and not of the USB protocol. I performed speed tests by connecting the DVR camera to my linux system. I can see only the the integrated 2GB memory of the camera with the DVR apk file, and according to the speed test it can read at 32MB/s -> USB2 protocol. So practically for a 1 minute video recording that is _100MB, the download speed to the DVR app should take around three (3) seconds.

The other thing is that I cannot access the microSD card, neither from my linux laptop nor from the File Explorer in my Dudu7. If you could support direct access of the microSD card within the file explorer, that could solve maybe a lot of problems... In that case we could use VLC to play the videos...
