Thanks. I can purchase this directly from teyes.com.au but the price is higher than I paid for the Dudu7 8/128. The Redpower 850 Pro is now available on Aliexpress at very good prices. But I need to see more on this unit before I'm comfortable making a change...

Sean @JhonnyD it's pretty much as Dudu when it entered the market. They don't have many units manufactured so far, that's why. I'll wait a few weeks, should be some discounts.
Can't find redpower though, might be they don't sell to the UK. Edit: see it now, much cheaper than I paid for Dudu.
Regarding arrogance etc, I've just had a discussion about bug in cover art when using USB audio player pro. That app is preferred for usb audio and on the compatible and tested list in the widget. Got the response I should contact UAPP dev to get it sorted.

Sorry just replied to an earlier message from you. Yes I find the responses here to be very disappointing. Once again we have another comment that they will continue to optimise audio quality. You can put lipstick on a pig right? It's still a pig? My analogy is harsh but isn't that far off what is being attempted. But kudos to them for getting the audio to this point given how they've designed audio paths in the unit.

I'm personally at a bit of a crossroads. I have the opportunity to return my unit for another week or so. Can then purchase the Redpower or can simply wait (without music) until we all have better info...

I don't know, maybe you can do an option for use the Digital Outputs (Coaxial and Optic) exclusive for clean Audio, I mean do a passthrough to the Android mixer / Resampler but with a warning saying that you can lose the Bluetooth, Aux and other sounds, maybe an option like "Audiophile mode" or simething. When you active this option you will send "bit-perfect" to the DSP or another device (like using UAPP).
I don't know if this is possible or complicated but it would be an highlighted improvement I think.

Looks like the Redpower 850 crystal is available on Aliexpress with shipping to Australia. I figure that they'd also ship to the UK.

Sean I'm also very annoyed and frustrated about some things. Unfortunately, I no longer have the option to return the device.

However, there are only minor things that bother me. One of them is the HPF and LPF filters. That you can't set a precise number. Or the LZK is running a bit poorly. I also find the volume of the internal amplifier relatively quiet. At least on my Dudu7. Everything is somehow louder at my brother-in-law's. Okay, he has different speakers, but it's still much louder, in my opinion.

I'm wondering what alternatives there are? And are they much better?

Yes, I know. My problem is not with how this unit performs, it performs surprisingly well considering the platform and how it's built. My problem was false advertising that it's an "almost" audiophile unit and on this I justified my purchase. Unit wasn't cheap.
I am I think after my return window (need to check Ali) because for since purchase I've been trying to get it to work as it should, but there is a bug after bug popping up once you start to use it and be familiar with the interface etc.
Usually requests for features, because something is visually ugly or makes no sense, are left without any response, or, you're getting vague and completely untrue statement. This makes me frustrated.

Blackbandt I also can't set front and rear HPF to exact 80hz, it's either 82 or 78. Subwoofer LPF van be at 80hz though.

I feel the same way mate. I purchased because of the audiophile claims and tests from others showing excellent SNR etc. But, while it does sound decent, it doesn't sound great and borders on harsh. My old green cube Alpine unit sounded better.

I also find that some of the functionality of the unit can be dangerous -it leads you to tap the screen unnecessarily while driving to fix some unexpected behaviour. I don't feel that any of this will get resolved based on what we've seen. Hence, my somewhat inflammatory tone.

Sean functionality - yes, I had a few situations like you say.
Regarding harshness

take a look at roon (and any other player you use like Poweramp) and see if you can turn on resampling to 48 kHz (and choose best available one like SoX in poweramp). They are much better than standard crappy android resampler. You will have no resampling by android but your app will feed much nicer resampled signal.
measure and adjust your dsp again. I find I have to do it with microphone and REW, I have completely different settings and xovers than with my previous headunit.

After contradicting @DUDU-HUANG answers by @DUDU-Meng in another topic (especially that navi bar is optimal now, ignoring all users' complaints) I don't have any hope for any changes.
Today I almost hit someone trying to press a tiny icon on navi that are twice smaller than my finger.

Hi Mike, I use Qobuz, which is your recommendation If I use this app? I mean it can't do a own resample, it need to use the Android resampler I think.

Thanks again Mike. This is a really good suggestion. I'm going to have a look at the Roon ARC settings but they look a little devoid of functionality in comparison to the Carplay version. Will dig around next time I'm in the vehicle.

Mike, I tried this and found the bit rate selector. To be honest, I wasn't anticipating a big change but setting the Roon player to a fixed 48kHz output regardless of source bit rate made an immediate difference. Hey, it's still behind my old Alpine player but the sibilance and harshness is certainly noticeably improved for the better. Thank you 🙂

agaxiola89 I don't know how Qobuz works with Usb Audio. If it uses direct usb dac mode it would be preferred. If not UAPP can do it (it can play Qobuz from your account).
That would be the best quality (bit perfect) but you'd need to have usb card in the dsp.
If not, spdif passthrough.
I'm using tidal and since it can't resample, I'm using UAPP that resamples tidal (same, logs in to your account at tidal) to 48 kHz and then passes to android.

agaxiola89 I'm sure they will work on this. Creating their own USB driver, or audio stack to bypass android mixer and internal DSP as well.

Thanks, Actually I'm using Qobuz with spdif passthrough. I don't have a USB DAC and I wan't buy it jajaja, I spent a lot of money in my audio system and I hope the developers of DUDU @DUDU-HUANG can help us with this issues reported.

Thanks for your reply - a bit embarrassed that I missed that this was made by Redpower themselves. Yes, noted that they made no reference to passing of system/navigation/phone calls via digital. Tempted to take a punt given pricing at the moment but it's certainly not the way we should have to do things.

Thanks @DUDU-HUANG . I appreciate the honesty but this simply reinforces my views this DuduAuto have patently false claims in their advertising. You clearly call this an audiophile player in all the available literature. Now you admit that you lag behind decent digital players. I'm happy that you have been so forthcoming in stating this but it leaves a bad taste with customers who care about this aspect of the unit. It also makes me very wary about any claims that the company makes in the future about new products etc and is reputation harming.

They may work on it but, as stated by DuduAuto in Post #55 above, the issues described pertaining to audio quality are hardware related -to be more specific in how audio is physically routed to the Android Chip and AKM chip. It is essentially a poorly thought out design that can't be fixed in it's current form and will require a hardware redesign.
