I turned off play over apps in Google Maps sett8ngs and it stopped crashing, for now. Still have some odd things.

jgsolo32 you need to go to Android settings / apps/ Gmaps and disable the PIP toggle switch there. The apps own PIP mechanism collides with DuduOS PIP mechanism. It's no bug of DuduOS - and it's been documented on this forum like 4 months ago for Gmaps but applies to all apps that try to create their own PIP and fail. The only app that I have allowed to do this is a traffic warner that I use and that doesn't interfere (blitzer.de pro).

Tomaso it might be a pointless exercise. Usb audio is bit perfect pass through but with no navigation / phone audio (which leads me to think it's taken before the AKM DSP). Taking i2s from this point wouldn't have any advantage over usb audio.
Looking at the AKM DSP datasheet looks like audio from navi or phone is going via DSP2 on the AKM (chip it has actually 3 DSPs) and mixed together. (here is spdif taken from). Taking i2s from this point doesn't offer any advantage over spdif.
So, it would seem like having a diy with i2s would be just a waste of time as the Dudu7 already provides output from before dsp (usb audio) and after dsp (spdif).
If you consider AKM dsp has over 100dB S/N etc etc, what would be the point to go to a purer signal? Your amps in the car merely reach usually 74 - 90dB S/N (not weighted), plus driving a car pretty much adds such a noise that probably hearing 70dB and 100dB dynamic range is the same.
All other things, like THD or frequency response on spdif with Dudu are excellent (albeit slightly worse than on usb audio). Except the level which is capped at 0.9.
So, question remains. Why?

Mikescotland My unit is 7862s (updated to Dudu6), at the moment I only use SPDIF which communicates with the Helix DSP processor, the Hex USB card is waiting to be installed, I will listen to how it sounds and I will think about further development of the unit, of course the volume control is independent from the DSP processor

Dudu 4. Install via USB without factory reset went smoothly without any issues. Checking out most of the changes; they are legit and amazing. I don't know if this is related to this version, but it has never happened to me before: installing an APK from the USB to update an application froze the device, and then it rebooted itself.

Download again and change pendrive/memory + format them. Its not bug in in image.

Beta firmware does not support local OTA updates with 7z archive!!! Use the second method, download the correct file again, unzip it, copy all contents to a FAT32 formatted flash drive. If you have a flash drive larger than 32 GB, then Fat32 formatting is not supported in Windows, use a smaller flash drive, or format it with third-party tools, search for instructions on Google.
