  • Android Auto Users… .taskbar bar bottom of display?

I know there isnt many android auto users here and most run the apps themselves. But those that do… are you able to get the taskbar at the bottom of the display? Taskbar widgets is turned on inside the android auto settings. My truck has a sony xav 8500 and it displays at the bottom like i want.

This is done by Android Auto itself. It checks the width and height of the screen. Based on the ratio, it sets the taskbar on the side (wide screen) or at the bottom (smaller or narrower screen).
There is nothing you can do about it. No setting and no developer options either.

surfer63 people with AA wireless adaptors are able to change the DPI to get it to work. Do you know if we are able to do that? My Sony is the same screen size with a lower resolution and it works.

I have a DUDU7 9.5 inch, originally the dpi was 240, the panel in AA was on the left side, when I increased the dpi to 320, the panel is now at the bottom. Try increasing the dpi, but I can't guarantee that it will work for you. Instructions on how to change the dpi can be found here:

That "might" be possible but is absolutely not guaranteed and will negatively influence (=screw) your duduos experience.
If you already found that, you know you need to activate developer mode from the AA settings and change the DPI settings.

surfer63 ill wait to see if someonw has done it with a 10" screen.

Also one more question if you can… .when inside android auto… if i tap on the maps or media im playing it normally zooms out to full screen when in my truck with my sony. But in my car with the dudu7 I cant seem to get it to do that. I can only swap them left or right but neither 1 can go into full screen. Does yours do this also?

Pavel-71 i will wait to see if somwone else chimes in with a 10" screen that has done it. But nonetheless really appreciate your reply. Thank you 🤝

I hardly use AA in my own car (and lately hardly drive in my own car), but for my work I drive regularly in rental cars where I always use it.
            I have this button.

When tapping that one I can switch to one app (with icon bar) or Navigation app, media app (and icon bar)

surfer63 i dont have that button anywhere as you can see.

The Android Auto display layout is all controlled by your phone, the Android Auto on the host is just for casting the screen.
Android Auto on your phone's end changes the layout based on the resolution of the display and the layout, which are all on your phone.

I still dont understand everything. I use the same phone on 2 different radios. Dudu7 and Sony 1280x720. Both are 10" displays but the dudu is a higher resolution yet i cant do 2 things that i would like to do with android auto.

                1. is have the taskbar at bottom.
                2. is to be able to go full screen on either google maps/waze or whatever media im playing.

Sometimes when i really need to focus on maps i go full screen as it shows more navigation.

Can i change settings on my phone for aa to get it the way i want?

                  Skillzo1
The layout is controlled by your cell phone, and it's all up to your cell phone to determine what layout to display at what resolution or DPI.
The principle is very simple, your cell phone virtual display after the projection to the car, the car host just as a monitor, there is no permission to adjust your layout!

I figured out a way to get the taskbar at the bottom. Turn on allows apps that require full screen to hide navbar. ( in this picture its off, turn it on ). I did not adjust any dpi.

For what its worth i have aa developer options turned on and inside the resolution i have it set to allow car and phone to negotiate.

Im still trying to figure a way out to have maps or the media go into full screen when tapping on it like it should.

surfer63 can you confirm you have that button on the dudu7? I have that button on my sony aa. I have a set of dots where that buttin should be. When i press the dots that button appears and bring me to all aa apps then when i press it again it goes back to the main screen and the dots. Look at my post above… it shows the dudu7 aa compared to my sony.``

After hiding the navigation bar, the height of AA changes, and the mobile AA recognizes the aspect ratio of the display and may trigger another layout output.
For example, some navigation apps have the same APK file, but the menu is on both sides in widescreen, and at the bottom in vertical screen.
