BMW X1 E84

Hi All,

Found a few things to keep in mind with fitting a DUDU7 to a BMW X1 E84:
1: QuadLock Extension: the DUDU7 12.3 sits quite high in the dash, the pathway from where the car harness sits originally and the back of the DUDU7 is kinda complex and therefore the harness currently provided with the DUDU7 was too short so an extension might be a good
2: If you want to keep the original USB and AUX ports you need to get a USB Retention Adapter. you unplug the white USB connector from the back of the CD/Radio and connect it to the adapter and the adapter to the DUDU7, I ordered this one

3: The X1 usually already has an AUX input and a MIC and these are present on the QUADLOCK wiring these into the DUDU instead of separate mic might be an idea... the extension is a good place to wire these in and then off to the mic input of the DUDU7

So once I had the DUDU DAB+ connected and the internal antenna positioned I found that the antenna reception was very poor.... the BMW E84 UK 2013 model usually has a DAB external antenna with a FAKR connector on the back of the original head unit. By purchasing a DAB Aerial Fakra "Z" Male to SMA Male Cable you can make use of the external arial which was an instant improvement. Simple change for vast improvement and with the DAB software it is also a vast improvement over the car's original DAB interface.

Second Update: Keeping the external USB connector: I am a bit of a stickler for keeping things tidy and being able to keep as much function as possible from the car's original equipment... The UK 2013 BMW E84 has a single USB port down in the centre console that is connected to the Original Radio of course it would be nice to be able to simply connect a USB Stick to either upload the latest version of DUDUOS... or to upload those tunes from yester-year that haven't found their way onto the streaming services.

With a USB Retention cable for the appropriate BMW model (in my case it was this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174743514303) I have been able to retain the USB port but have it connect to the DUDU7.

Just Disconnect the white connector at the back of the radio and you can use the cable mentioned above to connect the cable to one of the DUDU7 USB ports.
