Just catching up, recently joined the group. I am currently using a 7862 Joying head unit running the original Joying firmware. I have it connected to my Helix Ultra DSP both coaxial and via the USB HEC to the joying OTG USB. I can force digital output via the USB using UAP (USB Audio Player Pro). But it will only play locally stored music files from the UAP app over the USB, other functions, Radio, Navi, other apps (YouTube, Tidal, Spotify, etc., default to the coax when selected. I understand from SAAB Unleashed, that the DUDU7 enhanced 7870's internal DAC will allow for digital audio passthrough. This should allow us to use the USB-c connection for "pure" digital audio to the USB HEC without any other connection. I really want this to be true, going to go read that recommended thread to see if I can glean some tidbits of information. USB will be superior because it can utilize the connection in a two-way fashion allowing the synchronization of the DAC's clocks with some Voodoo algorithm stuff creating a stable stream of data. TOSlink and SPDIF is just one way and can introduce "jitter" because the clock cycles from the source to the DAC is not harmonized. Cross your fingers, this could be the Holy Grail for using an Android Head Unit as a universal digital music source. Enough rattling, onto the link gismo provided.
