Is this the right approach?
I would say that it should be possible in the settings to mark multiple apps as navigation app.
The same happens for users who use two naviation apps next to each other (don't ask me why).
With your solution that would only work for one app then.
If you allow multiple apps to be selected, it would work better.
I use Google Maps and Magic Earth, depending wether I drive with car, or with car and caravan. I need to switch. So never next to each other, but I do switch occasionally.
Edit: And then we have the users that use a navigation app and some "speed cam warning app" next to each other.
