  • Google Assistant/ GMaps PIP error

[1] Describe in detail the error you encountered.

On Dudu7 241118 3.5 beta minimalist mode: If you are in PIP mode like so

and start a navigation via Google Assistant "Hey Google, get me to [destination]", the navigation starts ok but PIP is lost like so:

This error didn't occur in 241008 the navigation just started in PIP (expected behaviour). On 241118 the error to go full screen occurs at least in minimalist mode (haven't tested standard mode).
To get back to PIP you then have to hit the home button marked here:

Then you get back to PIP and have the destination but need to start navigating:

Sometimes the PIP then doesn't start correctly:

Then you must hit home another time (or long press kill all).

Note: Error does not occur, if you just type a destination in GMaps PIP, only when using Google Assistant to enter destination. I guess Assistant restarts GMaps and for some reason it ends up full screen. As mentioned 241008 handles this correctly.

[3] Whether the bug can be reproduced, reproduced is what the steps are

100% reproducible using the above steps.

I can also confirm this bug for 100%.

Now tested 241118 default mode. Same problem - and actually even a bit messier:

Start in default mode:

Use Google Assistant to enter destination. GMaps comes up in full screen as above. Hit home button (short press)

Now the messier result: PIP comes up but wrong (black) plus GMaps is now in a floating box

Hit home again (short press) and PIP comes up more but gets sized wrong (at least floating box gone)

Kill all (home long press) and it's good after all but navigating must be started

So this affects both default and minimalist modes.

I can confirm this too.

In the latest beta 1205, this is still not solved. Using the "Hey Google" or SWC voice button to start Google Assistant, will then open Google Maps in full screen and not in the PIP window.
I did not get the black window so far.
Tapping the home key icon brings back GMaps in the PIP window and requires to push the "Start"button to start navigating.

Solution: Turn off PIP right in GMaps app settings (in v3.6b3: Settings/About/Apps and Rights Management - GMaps - set PIP toggle to off). The PIP toggle causes the floating GMaps window when GMaps is sent to background and that has caused the issues.

gismo Thanks man. This really solves the floating window problem.
