• DUDU OS
  • Toppal and SWC

I have 8/128 DUDU7 unit , just delivered, with the preinstalled 241008 firmware attached to a Canbox from the previous HU which is (Raise Ford/Lincoln/Mustang -Ford_R23 version 5.0.1.2023.12.08.) Vehicle is Australian Ford Ranger 2015-2022 using one of the 2 canbus presets in DUDO OS (not with the vehicle now so can't be more specific at the moment)
The SWC voice/phone button invokes Toppal voice. If you disable Toppal voice the SWC button does nothing.
Toppal voice can start Google Assistant and other apps but is not my preferred app for voice.
Somehow that SWC button is mapped to Toppal but is there a way to directly map it to Assistant please.
I have looked through the help docs, however programming the SWC buttons will not work with the Canbox as the button functions are preset I understand.
Hoping you can advise a work around for my issue.

I must congratulate you on making a very nice machine and OS - miles better than my previous unit, which was buggy and I could never get the microphone to work.

Ranger OTA/Other update/Feature update/No voice assistants. Download and install that update and you'll get rid of toppal. After that, that button will be mapped to GA. I think you'll have to install it from Play Store, but not sure. For the moment it works as it should only for music. You cannot make phone calls or navigate with GA. Our team of developers are working on it.

I think a factory reset will be needed in order to everything work correctly after this update.

Thanks for the update about GA integration. Until GA is fully integrated then it might be better to leave the Toppal. Right now if I press the voice SWC button and say "assistant" Toppal will start it and all GA voice functions work from there for me (phone/nav/music etc) . Currently just one extra action to be done therefore.
By the sound of it if I update the firmware, Toppal will be removed and the extra functionality I have from GA now, will be gone?

Ranger This I really don't know. I am located in Europe. And I uninstalled Toppal first thing. Maybe there are members here who can assist you more. Sorry. And yes, if you update, Toppal will be removed, but GA will remain.

MihaiFlorin Afaik, after the update nothing will change, meaning Toppal will still be tied to your SWC key unless you delete it. Then, GA would replace Toppal on the SWC, but as written before, you still can't make phone calls or use Waze navigation (Gmaps works...) with it.

I am confused but this is not unusual. At the moment my GA works with full voice functionality -calls(via phone bluetooth) , it can invoke the DuduOS Waze app with voice address search and music, via Dudo OS - Spotify in my case, is good.
GA, in my install definately works with calls and nav.
I do have a 4G data sim in and working, which could be relevant.

I think you are saying that if I delete Toppal, the SWC button will then map to GA which would then have reduced functionality compared to now?

My current situation is not too bad, one extra voice command to open GA (via Toppal) using SWC, and GA then works properly. Also GA works from the widget on the screen as 2nd option.

I am thinking don't fix what is not broken, so I will keep the status quo for the moment.

Thanks both MihaiFlorin and HondaCivic afor your kind responses.

@Ranger That sounds quite good acctually. Maybe you're indeed better off not changing a thing for now.
I wonder how you manage Waze navigation through GA voice commands? Wouldn't GA as a default open Google Maps?

Hi HondaCivic - Perhaps too good. Reality is that the car is my son's. Last weekend the Toppal voice command ''assistant" opened GA for me, and you are probably correct it was then Google maps rather then Waze opening and I just assumed Waze. Now Toppal won't recognize his voice so can't really check all of that, but GA was working for both calling and navigation, but I need to get back into his car to confirm what is happening now.
If I can get more info I will let you know.
I would agree GA would logically open Maps by default though, when you think about it.
        Thanks for the correction though.
