JhonnyD you might mix up two features though:
1) set day/night theme together with dimming - this has always been there and it has always worked for VW PQ, issues were only around max dim level, backlight power etc but no issues around the switching logic. You may mean this but it's not the topic of this bug report.
2) set theme to always night (dark theme for day and night plus dark menus/navibar) plus dim the night screen. This is a separate dimming option that only appears if you select "always night" and definitely has not been available for years but got introduced in v3.6 or so. That's the function this bug report relates to. Only relevant for people who want a black theme and menu throughout, just with more backlighting during daytime and less during the night. On my car, this worked fine initially and with some version the logic started to get reversed sometimes.
