USB Audio (DAC) support, digital outputs

I would really like to use the usb-c output as my music source but don't want to lose sound from YouTube, Google maps etc.
Is this something that can be done in a future update or is this never going to be possible ?

You can use it already. The only which doesn't work is the audio output from phone. With 3.6 I didn't tested this, perhaps it's working now.

Just use a USB DAC if you must have a clean signal. You can also use the optical output, just activate bypass, set Volume to max and change the values in "Balance Sound" from 5 to 10. I doubt you can here a difference, especially while driving.

Hello, when this optical connection is resolved. i have high end dsp/audio system in my car and i need clean optical signal. so i cant use this heand unit until optical output is fixed.
is there are any timeline when this happens ?

janis the optical is not the issue, at least on my end. My dac requires usb power. That was the issue. At least for me.

Chrisjohn if your issue is with the phone volume there is a menu that deals with the min and max volume for balancing the audio. If you have imbalance issues turn phone volume to 10 and lower everything else. Then you just turn the volume up on your head unit.

Are you able to control all volume with the Dudu or do you use Conductor or Director with the Helix?

I haven't bought yet because I'm trying to sort this out first. If I can't I'm getting a Kenwood lol

Yes, i am using usb passthrough digital, then into usb to optical converter, then optical into helix dsp. This is to avoid buying the usb hec card.

Using the dudu7 optical connection with volume control had bad sound quality. Therefore need passthrough and volume is controlled with a Conductor. This works fine with music apps and chatgpt and tidal etc but not phone calls. Tried usb Bluetooth handsfree device into RCA input on helix with Conductor to change source, and this sort of works ok.

I had the Kenwood dmx9720xds and it is very bad, also no digital output.

Isk you still have to use the usb cord but you plug it into a different power source. You should hit me on telegram. I can show you what I did

Dare to disagree. Take a look at RAWCat measurements on Youtube. You won't hear difference between 48kHz USB and Optical. Optical has 90% max volume of USB but that's all. THD, frequency response and S/N are comparable. Optical is several dB more noisy than USB but with 120dB S/N on optical it is impossible to hear the difference. If you hear the difference, it means something is ON in the sound settings in Dudu.

I have high level, optical and usb-c connected to my dsp and usb is the best for sound quality, followed by optical.
Still experimenting !!!

Mitz It uses PCM 1690 that have S/N max 113 dB which is noisier than Optical output of Dudu. For me it's a pointless exercise to use experimental USB DAC support- DSP is noisier than either optical or USB of Dudu.

Hi, I was able to get audio through USB all day long and was working as expected. Today while I was tuning my DSP, audio suddenly stopped working. I tried changing the USB cable, restart DUDU7, updated to latest, restart my DSP.
I am still unable to get audio output.
Kindly need help at the earliest.

sorry, but you are incorrect. I like RAWCat and he is correct, but you need to understand that there are 3 options for digital output .. USB digital, OPTICAL passthrough digital, OPTICAL modified digital. The first 2 are great. The last option 'OPTICAL modified digital' which lets you listen to phone calls and control volume is very bad.

Isk USB Audio from dudu is pass through, it's always at full level, you can't control it with headunit, therefore you need to control the volume on the DSP - i.e. conductor for helix. Otherwise the volume will be always at max.
Contrary to USB, optical and coaxial allow to control volume on Dudu, you can turn off all Dudu sound processing and have only volume control.

Yes, I use Conductor to control volume .. USB Digital to Douk U2 to Optical cable to Helix DSP V Eight MK2 (so I can avoid USB HEC for Helix). I cannot make phone calls though (unless I use bluetooth handsfree device plugged into RCA input on Helix and then use Conductor to change inputs from Optical to RCA when taking a phone call

If you (1) use optical and (2) do not enable optical passthrough, then yes, you can control volume, but the sound quality is very bad .. so this is not really a good option. So I use optical passthrough for good quality but I cannot control volume from DUDU7 only from Conductor.
