Geoff_T Still getting a conversion error I'm afraid. Logs show it is getting a fallback speed of 30 (which would be correct if mph) but it lists it as limitKmh=30, source=fallback:GB but then still converts it to display 18mph.

I finally think why it's wrong. It is not my conversion calculation function. When retrieving the gps speed I also retrieve the country and check if it is "GB", etcera, and even put that in the log. But I forgot to store it in its setting.
Before displaying I do the check on conversion and check the country setting, but if it is never set it will always default to a non mphCountry.

I need some other testing to do for other functionality, but can of course not do the real "in country" check.

OK. Initial testing on home tablet and all good! It now shows 30mph on the overlay which is correct.

I will load into the car unit later and go for a test drive and report back later in the day.

One small feature request. Could the display of the speaker icon be made optional? I only want a visual reminder so have always had the beep volume set to zero. I realise that the sound on/off toggle is very useful to a lot of people, but I would prefer the cleanest display possible.

Just installed in car and had a quick drive round the block.

Good news : The speed limit now seems to be working as well as our GB data allows and displays correctly in round numbers. On my quick trip I had 30mph and 60mph showing. I did have one odd 49mph limit pop up momentarily, but that was quickly replaced so I think that must be bad data rather than anything to do with your app.

Bad news: The actual speed displayed was too high and seemed to be the speed in mph converted to km/h. So if I was doing 30mph it displayed 48mph. I pulled up Google Maps just in case I had my units set wrongly on the headunit but that displayed correctly.

EDIT It has been a little while since I have tested it in the car, but I am pretty sure on the earlier versions, the speed itself displayed correctly, it was just the limit that was the issue.

Oh man. it goes on and on. Maybe I should simply print out my code and go line by line through it.

I live in Hamburg, Germany. My issue is, that that limit speed in the traffic sign pops up for less of a second. Most of the time there is no value at all and the frame of the traffic sign becomes green.

Sorry to report that has gone the other way now. Actual speed 18mph = app display speed 7mph.

Very odd as that doesn't even seem to a factor of 0.62 out for kmh/mph conversion.

EDIT Just playing around with the settings on my tablet at home and discovered that, if I untick the "Use mph instead of Km/h for GPS speed" option, the displayed speed limit changes from 30 to 77. This seems to be in the roughly the same ratio as the 7 to 18 mph error above, so maybe a conversion number bug has crept in?

So far I built, extended, corrected, extended, etcetera. I am currently completely rewriting that part of the code.
I no longer use 2 big "universal" functions (retrieving and displaying), but am now splitting in smaller blocks. Get speed limit, get GPS speed. Show gps speed (by country and user setting), show road limit (by user setting) if found.
More code but more easily to read or correct.

The 18 versus 7 is 18*0,62 ~11, and then again 11*0,62 ~7
And 30 versus 77 the same but the other way round..

OK, just a quick test round the block:

Speed Limit = Correct at 30 mph
Speed = Correct, always very close to my dash speed

But, if I went at anything over 21mph the speed changed to red as if I was over the speed limit. I have the warning set to allow 10% over limit so I guess from that it is using the km/h equivalent of 30 mph (18.6) as the limit rather than the 30?

EDIT I'm talking nonsense the kmh equivalent of 30mph is 48kph so I'm not sure. Maybe it is multiplying the 30 by 0.62 unnecessarily for the overspeed test?
