Magic earth new update

Has anyone tried out the new version of magic earth? I'm currently running it in pip and so far so good!

I did try it as I am using it already for many years. However, it crashes constantly. Not only on my head unit but also on my phone.
So currently I switched back to Here WeGo.
Here WeGo was very good, then for a number of years pretty bad, and currently again very good.

And why do you link to google Drive? Everyone can download from the play store, the app store, or directly from their website (like your first post).

surfer63 hi, yeah after some actual use it turns out its not so great. And I linked that as its an edited apk to make the ui smaller. Easier to link the apk here then download it on my head unit than finding a usb stick lol.

Did you toggle that little icon bottom-right? That looks like a " rifle sight". If you tap it, it acts like the "Follow my position" in 3D "drive mode".
Not perfect, but for me good enough.
Or is that what you already meant?

surfer63 yeah thats what I meant. I contacted the developers and they're working on the next update, apparently theres been a lot of negative feedback regarding the new design.

Your last remark is again about Magic Earth?

I consider the traffic info from Here Wego much better than from Magic Earth, and almost comparable with Google Maps.
I preferred Magic Earth over Here WeGo as it did (and does) respect your privacy for full 100%.
And of course: both ME and Here WeGo with offline maps and then using it online, only use internet for traffic info (and searching for pois/addresses not in the offline map).
Even though Google Maps only uses 50 -70 MB for a 2-2½ hour drive. ME and Here WeGo only use 1 - 10 MB on such a trip using offline maps with only traffic info..

surfer63 ohhh, about herewego, yh the location tracking isn't very smooth, a bit jumpy. And its always the dot instead of an arrow for the icon

You're right. I had not even noticed it. I just realize it now.
It shows I don't really care 😉
