Dear Forum.
I have a 2016 Volvo S60 that I’m looking to do something to improve navigation, etc over the original screen/system. I’m based in Ireland (left hand drive). I really like the features of the Dudu 7 and like the fascia/trim that is available for my car that gives it a very finished look.
If going with the Dudu 7, I would anticipate having it installed by an auto electrician/stereo installer as it would not be something I have experience with and don’t have the time to risk breaking trim parts, etc. taking things apart.
I’ve contacted all the well-reviewed installers local to me and they have all rejected doing the install. I think they do not want the customer repeatedly coming back into them with CAN bus issues, etc.
Yesterday I called in and had a discussion with an installer. When I left we had a different plan, but afterwards, considering our conversation, I think that I might be able to reapproach him to do the Dudu installation with an understanding that he wouldn’t be liable for CAN bus issues, or issues in general and that if there is a need for reporting CAN bus problems, etc. that I would have to do that rather than him.
The questions I have are:
Am I asking for problems with the approach of him doing the install and me looking after the dealing with support after that? (i.e. me reporting CAN bus codes, etc).
One of the issues that I, and the installers have, is that with the fascia/trim, and this type of device, we would be removing the original car’s screen. If everything isn’t working 1000% on the Dudu, there are options, etc. in the car’s operating system that me/mechanic may have to use at some point.
I thought I came across discussion on the internet about the Dudus, that some people were keeping the original screen in tandem with the Dudu. One user was somehow locating the original car’s screen (working) in the glovebox.
Can you please advise what the preferred approach is? It would be great if you could advise so that I, as a non-auto electrician, would understand the concept, but also provide the details that would make it make sense to an installer so that I could take it him and see if it’s something he would do.
Since I’m posting in this regards, if anyone has experience with a similar Volvo and can speak to their experience, it would be very much appreciated. Has anyone installed in this car opting to not install the fascia/trim and instead go with a larger screen? If so, how was it mounted? Did it have a 'finished' look?
Thank you for any insight.
