I recently ordered a DUDU7 for my Toyota RAV4, and I’m having trouble understanding the bracket installation process. The DUDU7 kit came with a so-called “RAV4-specific bracket,” but when I tried to install it, it didn’t make any sense.
After struggling for a while, I contacted the service center, and they told me that I need to reuse my original OEM head unit — including the metal box on the back and even the frame behind the screen — just to physically support the DUDU7.
That sounds completely unreasonable to me. My OEM head unit is in perfect working condition and is worth over $500 on eBay, so I really don’t want to destroy it just to use it as a “support structure.”
From my understanding, only the side mounting brackets should be reused, not the entire OEM frame and metal housing.
Is that correct?
So I’d like to ask:
Has anyone here found a better or cleaner installation method for the RAV4?
Are there improved or updated DUDU7 brackets that allow installation without reusing the original head unit?
Or maybe someone has a 3D-printed mounting frame (STL file) that works for this setup?
Any photos, links, or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I just can’t believe I’m supposed to sacrifice a perfectly working OEM head unit just to hold the DUDU7 in place.
Thanks in advance!
