Use Internet from my iPhone without using a separate dedicated Sim Card????

How the hell do you get the Dudu to use the internet that is available on my iPhone. I connect using USB to allow charging and to ensure high grade audio output. No matter what I do, the Dudu will not use the phone's internet connection. Any ideas on how to make this possible? And I'm trying to avoid connecting my phone to the Dudu via Bluetooth given that the iPhone converts the audio stream to lower bitrate when using bluetooth.

You just need to share your iPhone connection by creating a hotspot / access point in your iPhone settings, then connect the Dudu to your iPhone's shared network via WiFi connection.

grenoblours Done that. Doesn't work. Tried connecting via bluetooth as a temporary fix and again no internet. Doesn't matter what I do. I've tried selecting the Option "share phone's internet connection via USB " and it is greyed out until I connect Carplay via Car Link 2.0. I then go back to this option and select it. Unit then crashes and reboots. This has happened many times.

Sean You can not use Carlink and wifi in the same time. Don't ask me why but this is how it works. If you search after "tutorial" you'll find a post by me on how to enable hotspot from iphone when is connected to Dudu through BT. For me it works without problems. And please provide your system details as in here

Pointless. I’m not interested in using Bluetooth as phone compress audio when doing so. Everything down stream is very high quality -pointlessly so if I’m using Bluetooth as a source. Can this product use the phones internet connection via USB while connected via car link?

Whenever people ask this question I struggle to understand the use case. I share my phone's internet but never go into AA; if I wanted to use AA I wouldn't share internet access at all. What would be the point?

So why do we have apple CarPlay and android auto then? In my case, I use Roon and Roon ARC. I can stream all of my high res music files that are stored on my PC wherever I go. For me that is a huge benefit.

The other point is that this POS unit will not use the internet connection from my phone regardless of whether I have Apple Car Play activated or not.

This is a serious limitation-highest quality audio streamed from iPhone in my case is Roon ARC via USB out. So when I use that, my phone internet cannot be shared with the DUDU??? Are you guys serious???

Sean Apple CarPlay establishes communication with the device through the WIFI channel. At this time, you cannot let the iPhone share the network hotspot, otherwise there will be a conflict.

It is also an Apple "thing". For Apple most Androids "aren’t certified as “host” devices for iPhone tethering". In that case DuDu can do what it wants, but we all know how Apple wants to live in it's own closed ecosystem.
Off course Apple needs to do this with the big car brands, otherwise users will buy Android phones to use in their cars.

No It does not. I disable wifi and bluetooth and connect via USB only. I establish CarPlay this way and then, and only then, does the option to share internet connection via USB become available. Prior to connecting via CarPlay it is greyed out. I then select share internet via USB and the unit very shortly after crashes and then goes into reboot. This behaviour repeats and repeats and repeats. It is not a one off.

Unless you disable carplay, you can share the network to GU via USB, but you have to turn on the USB sharing setting switch in the factory settings.

Sean The unit crashes because it was clearly explained to you that what you try to do is creating a conflict. Carplay uses BT only for the "handshake" (security checks and so on) with the unit. After that is using WiFi direct. Google it if you don't believe me.

Sean did you go to vehicle - factory settings (pass 108) - USB and tick iPhone USB tethering?

I tested on android and:

Carlink (android auto) on usb and usb tethering work without any problems at the same time.
Carlink wireless with usb tether works on android
Carlink wireless and WiFi hotspot can't work together (as the android auto is wifi direct, as expected)
Carlink usb works with WiFi hotspot.

Now, I think wifi hotspot is more than sufficient for any high res audio and video.
I checked and my Dudu connects to my phone hotspot @5Ghz with 433 Mbps, just a little shy of my home router. Meaning a high res file of 100MB would be downloaded in 2 secs and 4K Netflix movie of 4 GB would take slightly over a minute (not streaming, downloaded in full).
99% of users will have mobile data speed lower than WiFi hotspot...

You can explain it but it actually doesn’t ONLY use BT or Wifi. As I explained, I have disabled BOTH on my iPhone while testing. CarPlay connects perfectly via USB and I can stream Roon ARC perfectly. Note that I also tried connection via wifi without USB tethering and this god damned unit still wouldn’t use my iPhone Internet.

I would agree with you mate. I’m going to look at this again tomorrow as it’s after dark out here. But I’m pretty sure that I’ve done what you’ve suggested. Will report back.

There is no need for such pointless arguments. Once you connect to CarPlay, your phone will no longer output USB shared network data, and DUDU7 will not be able to access the network of the iPhone connected to CarPlay. CarPlay merely mirrors the signal from the iPhone and has nothing to do with the internet.
If you want to use CarPlay and also have the DUDU7 connect to the internet on its own, use a SIM card. If you only want to use Wi-Fi or USB-shared internet, do not use CarPlay simultaneously.

Ok so this is a new thing for me as Android doesn't have this limitation and my previous head unit offered no functionality outside of the Car Play environment. Now understood. So my best option is to use the Dudu without Car Play and install and run apps directly while sharing the phone's internet connection via hotspot. Unfortunately, the downside is that the voice control of the Dudu is quite a bit behind Siri and that makes it more difficult to drive truly hands free.

Additionally, if using the folder "Music" I should be able to add Apps such as Roon to this Folder. The Dudu does not recognise this as a music app despite its sole purpose being to stream music. Any advice on how to do this?

If the music player you are using is not listed in the DUDU music plugin, you can select Universal Music
It will recognize Android standard media
