Dudu OS is android based, it's got Google play store and can install any app etc. Think of dudu OS as a kind of overlay/customised system that runs/integrates with android as the base - kind of! Or, you know when you buy a phone that's android but each manufacturer has their own take/proprietary system on it that uses android OS. Like Samsung uses One OS and Xioami uses what's now called HyperOS. It's all android but each uses their own customised version.
Some or many of the cheaper car head units that advertise android use Android Auto which connects to your phone and runs off that for maps, music etc. This is, in my opinion, far inferior. 1. It's very limited in functionality 2. You have to use your phone as the source, most people using a cable to connect each time - something I can't stand every time I want to listen to music off phone/maps etc.
For me, Dudu is the way forward. For streaming music from Tidal/Spotify etc the dudu has a sim card slot for a cheap data only sim so you're not relying on your phone data. There's a whole plethora of options in dudu too. The only reason I have now to connect my phone via Bluetooth is for phone calls using my regular number.
When you say other android head units, which were you thinking of?
