  • DUDU7 And The 98-05 S160 Lexus GS300

  • Edited

Hello there, been having quite a bit of fun setting up the unit. This has been a side project for a month or so now and I've hit the point where all I can do now is ask for help to iron out the bugs. Unit is a DUDU7 in my '99 Lexus GS300.

CANBUS-based features largely do not work, and the GS300 itself is not an option in the settings.

This is the hardware kit I have to use to install the DUDU7, it does include a CANBUS box and full harness. Everything has been tested using the DUDU7 and a cheaper ROCO K706 I had access to at the time. The K706 had a dedicated GS300 (S160) option.

The harness and CANBUS BOX are available standalone, here. It's an LZ (LuZheng) box. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804738782113.html I did follow the instructions given and try the Lexus IS patch, as well as the Lexus ES and RX patches available in the settings.

Right now I'm only able to change some of the amplifier settings.

I can't use the CD changer or the AC controls.

Just went outside to take a short video and some pictures. I'm a bit short on time at the moment. I'll be more than happy to record some proper CANBUS logs later in the week if needed!

RXNFS Hello, I checked the CANBUS log video.
The AMP settings are normal, which means the CANBUS box is working properly.
When I press the physical button of the air conditioner, I don’t see any air conditioner information syncing. Is the air conditioner working properly?
When using the radio, all clicks are invalid when there is no radio station. Have you tried scanning the radio station?

I just spent a couple of hours messing with things, including messing with almost every CANBUS option for Toyota/Lexus I can find. Most of them work with the amplifier, so the CANBUS box does work like you said. The air conditioner does work, but no CANBUS option helps. I'll look into that next time with logs.

For reference, the air conditioner plugs into the CANBUS box separately, like this. It's very strange.

I did not take this picture myself, it's from this installation video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfasaqmuN4k

I had no luck with the CD changer either, but I'll try the scan button next time and let you know if it does anything. I'll be sure to record a video, too.

        RXNFS Are these buttons normal?
Normally, after pressing these buttons, DUDU will synchronize the air conditioning information.

What kind of equipment did you have? Climate control by buttons or multi-display? On such vehicles, climate control and multimedia (amplifier, radio) are performed via the AVC bus. If you had push-button climate control, then most likely the climate control unit does not have external control via the AVC bus. Therefore, judging by your last video, the climate control was connected directly to the climate control unit with additional yellow wires.

Had some more time to work on things today, took a video of my progress too. Long story short, I did get the HVAC working!

            To address some things!

SCAN button for the CD changer, by dudu-lai, I tried that and got nowhere. That's in the video.

HVAC buttons by dudu-lai, these buttons now all work now that the HVAC connection has been fixed.

Previous equipment by KravtLab, you'll see in the video that it uses the climate control buttons. What would be considered the "low" config. High config GSes with the navigation are more complicated, but use the same harness.

RXNFS I watched the video and looked up the info. This car did not keep the original main unit so it is normal for the original radio and original CD not to work in the vehicle info.
In the video I see that adjusting the temperature does not work?

RXNFS Most likely, CD changer will not work without the standard head unit (which you have removed). Regarding the temperature display, the video shows that the Android radio station sends a command to change the temperature, but the CANBUS does not respond.- you can try other CANBUS profiles in the list LZ(HZ)-Toyota -.... maybe it will help.

dudu-lai Adjusting temperature does work. It's the temperature readout that doesn't, everything else is fine.

Also the CD changer is separate from the main unit, it's plugged into the amplifier. Here's the wiring diagram, if it helps!

                  https://portal-diagnostov.com/en/2020/04/09/radio-lexus-gs-300-1999-system-wiring-diagrams/

KravtLab I'll try other options, I've actually found that many Raise, SimpleSoft and LZ(HZ) options work just fine. It's just the temperature readout that doesn't work, and the CD changer. Again, wiring diagram linked above. And if I really can't get that working, I won't be that upset.

RXNFS When the temperature does not show a value, adjust the temperature entity button and record the CANBUS log.

                    11 days later

OK, so I absolutely owe an apology with this one. Haven't had much time for myself lately, and I just got to making a video about this.

                    Currently:

                    • Temperature shows 77F now instead of LO. Still does not change with the temperature, still incorrect.
                    • The LZ(HZ) CANBUS I'm supposed to use does not record a CANBUS log.
                    • If I use a Raise CANBUS I can record a log. But I can't change AC settings in the FYT touch screen assistant anymore.

                    Video, recorded today: https://youtu.be/67_5i-ckyyM
                    Logs from the video: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qgwtJPQsHE4QmcZTuDs_uCOgv-ONenO3?usp=drive_link

RXNFS I submitted a request to view Google Drive.

dudu-lai Just saw that and authorized it. Should be good.

RXNFS I submitted the log video to LZ (HZ) but received no reply, which is unusual, apparently they don't want to reply. I would recommend that you replace the CANBUS box with another brand!

dudu-lai I wish I could! No other brand makes a CANBUS box for my car.

Spent the weekend wiring up a new backup camera and I can't use that either, the backup switch wire is plugged into CANBUS but that can't send a reverse signal. I also got another radio to plug everything in for testing, and had the exact same problems. Maybe I still need patch 4018016 from the video I saw, or maybe it doesn't help. But there's nothing I can do but use what I have as it is now. 😔

RXNFS I have not yet received a reply from LZ (HZ).

RXNFS OEM air conditioner, is it Fahrenheit or Celsius display?

                                a month later

                                dudu-lai Sorry I didn't see this sooner!

OEM air conditioner in North America is in Fahrenheit.

RXNFS OK, LZ(HZ)CANBUS boxes, they don't have Fahrenheit data

dudu-lai Really? Wow, that's disappointing. I've since learned that on the '98-05 GS300/GS400/GS430 the only way to change the AC to Celsius is to change out the body control module.

Ah well! Thanks for clarifying, I really do appreciate it! If I find anything else of use, I'll bring it up!
