  • Android Auto steering wheel voice button problems

I don't have data on my dudu7, vehicle is Subaru outback 2017 . I am mainly using Android Auto real time traffic navigation and online music. The issue I am facing is when activating Google assistant with the steering wheel button the assistant is starting on my mobile device instead of activating on the android auto screen. So instead of listening to my command with the vehicle mic it is listening on the phone. The odd thing is I can start Google assistant by pressing the digital button on the android auto and also by using the "ok Google voice command. Both activate on the dudu7 android auto screen.
How can I fix this attaching pictures of the button I am using in the steering wheel, the canbus decoder and the system information screen showing the details of my unit.
?

I really appreciate any assistance on fixing this issue. No sure if a canbus update is needed. I have spent hours troubleshooting and I am getting no where.

McDudu In System Updates - More Upgrades - are there any voice related ones installed?

here is a screenshot of the more upgrade window. One more finding , if i launch the google maps installed on the DUDU 3.5 OS when pressing the voice button it actually activates the google assistant locally, the issue is this requires internet data to work. vs when using android auto you are using the internet connection present on your phone which is why i have been fighting to get this to work. I am trying to use the head unit without having to pay monthly data fees. the voice command button is the most efficient way to interface with the head unit since it actually pauses all sounds to listen to your voice commands. vs using wake up words to engage the assistant since environmental noises affect the accuracy of it.

    thank you for your assistance.

McDudu If you have the Toppal assistant installed (the small robot) this might be the culprit. You cannot have two assistants in the same time. Try to download and install the No voice assistants update and see if this helps you
Be sure to have all the Google apps up to date.

MihaiFlorin Thanks for the guidance, unfortunately after applying the no voice assistants update and upgrading all google services. the behavior remains. thanks for taking the time to answer to my call for help.

What can the SWC voice button do now? If it does the job of waking up the little robot, then CANBUS is fine. Nothing to do with the hardware installation theme.

When you don't link Android Auto or Bluetooth to your phone, does pressing this button wake up the voice?
The button on your steering wheel seems to be the voice button for Bluetooth phone, it can wake up the voice of the Bluetooth device, not the voice of the device itself.
DUDU7 has two voice buttons, local voice and bluetooth voice.

When you don't link Android Auto or Bluetooth to your phone, does pressing this button wake up the voice?

it triggers the google assistant which fails due to not having online connectivity, so it end up with the following error: you need to enable a simm card or wifi to use this feature!

hence why i am trying to make Android Auto the main way of interacting with map and music and searches, so i can leverage my phone data plan to access real time driving information

When pressing the steering wheel voice button while on the main Dudu OS home page it triggers the google assistant on the head unit. when i launch Android Auto the same button triggers google assistant but on my phone instead, so it is triggering but on the wrong device. this happens via Bluetooth or hardwired (usb) while in android auto. and then from that point all interaction feedback continue to happen on my phone, which is pointless.
