  • No GNSS on new install

New install of a Dudu7 9.5" but I get no GNSS / GPS. I have rechecked the connector is well clipped in and tried placing the receiver on the roof of my car - but nothing. Could I have missed a setup step? I have attached an image of the connector and device

UK_Matt You might have a faulty GPS antenna. If you have the possibility try another GPS antenna.

The first orientation may take a long time. You can try it after networking

MihaiFlorin Alas no. I had a look at options to buy a replacement but can only find L1 devices with Fakra connectors. I could order the cheapest unit to aid in troubleshooting but if I want L1 & L5 signal bands I will have to order from AliExpress.

DUDU-Meng I can try leaving it for longer but I think 20 minutes should be enough time? I added a 4G SIM card today (working fine) but was using a Hotspot connection until then. I'm at work tonight (25 minute drive). If it isn't showing signal lock when I get to work is there anything else I can try?

UK_Matt You can also measure the voltage at the radio's GPS port to see if it's around 3.3V, if it's not getting any power then there may be a hardware problem with the machine. If there is power, there is a problem with the GPS antenna

No voltage on the connector. Replacement GNSS receiver also shows no satellites which I guess isn't surprising. I checked resistance from centre pin to chassis and it is 0.03Ω (lead resistance is 0.13Ω) which strikes me as too little. Anything else I can try?

              Vielleicht eine sogenannte kalte Lötstelle.

UK_Matt The DUDU needs to be made to work properly before measuring (if this has already been done)
Then the problem may be a false solder in the solder joints.

JhonnyD "Maybe a so-called cold solder joint."

To my understanding this is more likely a solder bridge or failed IC - there is effectively a short to ground.

What to do? GPS socket voltage measured as 0.0003V - resistance between GPS socket centre pin and GND measured as 0.03 ohms - if 3.3v was being injected it would go to ground. The Dudu7 has been installed less than one week. Do I disassemble the unit to inspect? I don't want to harm any warranty with Mekede-Mall but do have some limited experience repairing electronics down to SMD level. Could this be something simple in your experience?

UK_Matt I had a similar issue (no GPS localization on a new system) which automagically went away after just driving around / keeping the system on for a longer time (an hour or so).

                  7 days later

                  Hi,

Issue resolved. Instantly seeing 19 satellites and seeing 40+ satellites after a minute or two. Very relived!
